Growth of the young plaice (0-group and I-group) in the North Sea was much better (ca 1,3 cm/month) as compared to the Wadden Sea (0,9 cm/month). The condition of the plaice in both areas, however, was more or less the same. The condition increased in spring to a maximum in July-August, the water content showed an inverse relation to the condition. With excess food the young plaice in the laboratory showed rapid growth at 15 and 20°C (ca 1,25 cm/month). With limited food growth appeared to be better at 15°C (0,9 cm/month) as compared to 20°C (0,3 cm/month). There was no direct correlation between growth and condition in plaice, differences in size between young plaice from the Wadden Sea and the North Sea may have been due to selective migration.","AbstractOtherLang":"Een vergelijkend onderzoek werd gedaan naar groei en konditie van jonge schol in de Waddenzee tov de Noordzee. Daartoe werden tot oktober 1972 iedere maand monsters schol (0-groep en I-groep) verzameld met een boomtrawl, op twee stations in de Waddenzee (Vlieter en Wierbalg) en één station in het Noordzeekustgebied bij Callantsoog. De scholletjes werden gemeten (lengte en breedte) en gewogen (vers gewicht, droog gewicht, ingewandengewicht), en de konditie werd bepaald. In dezelfde periode werden in het zeewater laboratorium 6 groepen scholletjes (I-groep), opgekweekt bij 3 constante temperaturen (10, 15 en 20°C) en 2 voedseldichtheden: \"overmaat-\" en\"beperkt\"voer. De scholletjes in de Noordzee (Callantsoog) waren gemiddeld 2,4-4,6 cm groter, en ze groeiden ook sneller (groeisnelheid 1,3 cm/maand) vergeleken met de scholletjes in de Waddenzee (groeisnelheid 0,9 cm/maand). Er was echter geen duidelijk verschil in konditie van de schollen. In beide gebieden nam de konditie van de schollen in het voorjaar toe tot een maximum in juli-augustus, waarna ze weer geleidelijk iets afnam. Het watergehalte (in %) van de scholletjes variëerde omgekeerd evenredig met de konditie. Ook de lengte-breedte verhouding variëerde (tussen 2,7 en 2,9) en het relatief ingewandengewicht (tussen 9,5 en 6,5% versgewicht). In de kweekbakken groeiden de overmaat gevoerde scholletjes maximaal bij 15 en 20°C (ca 1,25 cm/maand). De dieren bereikten een abnormaal hoge konditie vergeleken met de dieren in zee. Bij beperkt voedselaanbod was de groei beter bij 15°C (0,9 cm/maand) dan bij 20°C (0,3 cm/maand). Door grote sterfte waren de resultaten bij 10°C niet duidelijk. Uit de resultaten van het onderzoek blijkt o.a. dat er geen duidelijke correlatie is tussen lengtegroei en konditie van jonge schol.
