The latter had been bred in the laboratory for several generations. Antibiotics were used only once when the experiment was started. Filtered seawater was used, with a salinity of about 29,5 approx. 0,5 per thousand. <i>Skeletonema costatum</i>, <i>Isochrysis galbana</i>, <i>Chlamydomonas </i>sp., <i>Phaeodactylum tricornutum</i>, <i>Monochrysis</i> sp., and <i>Dunaliella</i> sp. were used as food ( none of the media used was bacteria-free).
