The ships, for the Dutch owner Chemgas Shipping, are designed to carry liquefied gas products on the inland waterways. The design of crashworthy tankers for inland waterway transport of dangerous goods has a regulatory benefit in the sense that larger cargo tanks are allowed. In constructing a crashworthy hull structure and integrate it into the complete ship, the design takes special design considerations for connections of bulkheads, decks, tank supports and other connected construction parts.
