Polyps of the species <i>Aurelia aurita, Cyanea capillata</i> and <i>Chrysaora hysoscella</i>, were kept at different temperatures. Scyphistomae of <i>Aurelia</i> reproduce mainly by stolonization. An influence of temperature on this was not found. Strobilation occurs probably at temperatures between 4 and 10°C. Scyphistomae of <i>Cyanea</i> reproduce mainly by the formation of podocysts. Higher temperatures stimulate this formation. Strobilation occurs between 2 and 12°C, with probably an optimum at about 7°C. Strobilation of <i>Chrysaora</i> takes place at temperatures between 7°and 15°C. Stolonization was not observed and only very few podocysts were produced. The scyphistomae were too young for this process. Temperature appeared to be an important factor in strobilation. The experiments were not conclusive about the influence of other factors and their importance in relation to temperature.","AbstractOtherLang":"Kwalpoliepen zijn opgekweekt uit planulalarven, verkregen door volwassen kwallen in 3 aquaria te brengen. De poliepen van drie soorten, nl. <i>Aurelia aurita</i>, <i>Cyanea capillata</i> en <i>Chrysaora hysoscella</i>, zijn onder verschillende temperatuur omstandigheden gebracht. Scyphistoma's van <i>Aurelia</i> blijken zich in de eerste plaats door stolonisatie ongeslachtelijk te vermenigvuldigen. Een temperatuur invloed hierop is niet gevonden. Strobilatie treedt bij <i>Aurelia</i> poliepen naar alle waarschijnlijkheid op bij temperaturen tussen 4°C en 10°C. Scyphistoma's van <i>Cyanea</i> planten zich in de eerste plaats ongeslachtelijk voort door podocystenvorming. Een temperatuursinvloed hierop is aangetoond, in die zin dat een hogere temperatuur de vorming van de podocysten bevorderd. Strobilatie treedt bij <i>Cyanea</i> op in een temperatuurgebied van 2°C tot 12°C, met waarschijnlijk een optimum bij ongeveer 1°C. Strobilatie vindt bij <i>Chrysaora</i> plaats bij temperaturen gelegen tussen 7°C en 5°C. Stolonisatie is bij <i>Chrysaora</i> niet, podocystenvorming in zeer geringe mate waargenomen. De oorzaak hiervan is dat de scyphistoma's te jong zijn geweest. Temperatuur is gebleken een voor strobilatie zeer belangrijke factor te zijn.
