This report presents the main results of the January 2007 count, which has been organised in co-operation with the NGO Natuurpunt vzw. We received data from 282 sites, collected by 115 volunteer field ornithologists. Coverage was high and in many regions special efforts have been made to accomplish this. A total of 8791 birds were counted. The highest numbers were seen in the valleys of the river Leie and Scheldt, and locally in the province of Antwerp (Kalmthoutse Heide, Hees at Hoogstraten and Mechels Broek). Compared to the results of the former count in 2004, group size is now significantly lower: only in 9 sites more than 200 birds were present. The largest group (439) was noted at the Mechels Broek. De species has recently become a frequent visitor of the coastal polders and the eastern province of Limburg. The present population is estimated at more than 9000 individuals.","AbstractOtherLang":"Bij de Canadese Gans, Branta canadensis, een verwilderde ganzensoort die in de jaren 1990 snel in aantal toenam werd vanaf de winter 1994/1995 bijzondere aandacht besteed binnen een speciaal project, ‘Project Honker’, waarbij jaarlijks een gebiedsdekkende wintertelling voor de Canadese Gans werd georganiseerd. Dit rapport geeft een overzicht van de belangrijkste resultaten van de wintertelling van 2007. De telling gebeurde in samenwerking met Natuurpunt vzw. We ontvingen gegevens uit 282 gebieden, verzameld door 115 vrijwillige veldmedewerkers. De bedekking in Vlaanderen was over het algemeen zeer goed en in heel wat regio’s werden er grote inspanningen geleverd om zo gebiedsdekkend mogelijk te tellen. Er werd tijdens de telling een totaal van 8791 Canadese Ganzen waargenomen. De grootste aantallen werden genoteerd in de Leie- en Scheldevallei, en plaatselijk in de provincie Antwerpen aan de Kalmthoutse Heide, bij de Hees te Hoogstraten en in het Mechels Broek. In tegenstelling tot de laatste telling in 2004 waren er opvallend weinig grotere groepen, met slechts in 9 gebieden meer dan 200 ex. De grootste concentratie bestond uit 439 vogels (Mechels Broek). De soort pleistert nu ook frequent in de kustpolders en in de provincie Limburg.
