Feeding levels ranged from 100,000-1,000,000 cells/ml. Both diatoms were also frozen, either in the presence or absence of the protectants glycerol and dimethyl sulfoxide. Frozen <i>Skeletonema</i> was suitable when frozen in the presence of protectants; <i>Thalassiosira</i> supported good growth of larval shrimp when frozen alone or with protectants.
