The respiratory capacity for a number of substrates increased with increasing growth rate (e.g. aspartate, alanine, asparagine, glutamate and glutamine), whereas for other substrates the reverse was found, that is a decrease of the respiratory capacity with an increase of the growth rate (e.g. glucose and pyruvate). For some other substrates the respiratory capacity varied at a lower level (e.g. valine and leucine). Thus for at least a number of substrates the respiratory capacity was related to the growth rate. Some preliminary experiments were done on HIS 53 grown in a continuous culture system with a programmed variation of the dilution rate. In a chemostat culture with a constant dilution rate of 0.12 h-1, the respiratory capacity for aspartate was constant at 3.5 µmol aspartate mg protein-1 h-1.","AbstractOtherLang":null,"BibLvlCode":"AM","StandardTitle":"The regulation of the activity of heterotrophic bacteria = La régulation de l'activité des bactéries heterotrophes","OrigTitleLangCode":"en","OrigTitleLangCodeExtended":"eng","OrigTitleLangID":15,"DateLastModified":{"date":"2024-12-10 01:33:17.368041","timezone_type":1,"timezone":"+01:00"},"UserAccessRight":null,"UserAccID":null,"AuthorKeywords":null,"OtherDescriptors":null,"Notes":null,"AnaPub":1984,"MonPub":null,"DateUpdate":"2016-01-04","DateCreate":"2009-05-18","SecASFANote":null,"ConfID":null,"PeerRev":0,"VlizCoreFlag":1,"WoScode":null,"VABBcode":null,"OpenAcc":0},"refs":null,"anarec":{"AnaID":135734,"PubliDate":1984,"Pagination":"115-119","XtraPublOfAnaID":null,"ISBN":null,"Volume":null,"Issue":null,"BRefMon":135733,"BRefMonRR":"(1984).
