Each act of egg depodition by the female involved a standard sequence of actions and resulted in an average deposition of <50 eggs. The spawning act was then continued with another egg deposition or the fish returned to the school before initiating another spawning act. The addition of a small amount of sperm initiated spawning by both sexes whereas the presence of eggs did not.
