(2) During the first 95 days the eels apparently tended to utilize liver triglycerides as energy source. An increased liver glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase activity and maintenance of glycogen levels suggested a stimulated gluconeogenesis. (3) Between 95 and 145 days the eels utilized great amounts of both liver and muscle triglycerides. There was also a marked decrease in liver glycogen during this later phase of starvation.
