On a comparative weight-basis, the plankton samples had the highest n-alkane values, particularly at the coastal sites adjacent to industrial urban areas. The remaining animal samples fell within a range of means from 0 1 to 20 g/g wet weight, the higher value usually found in fatty tisses. Different tissues exhibited different n-alkane distribution profiles.
