The flushing time appears to be high as compared with the deeper channels of the Dutch Wadden Sea. However, the reduction in intensity of mixing processes is less than what could be expected from values of tidal velocities. This is supposed to be due to a domination of the mixing process by strong tidal mean circulations set up by non-linear interactions of a tidal wave propagating over a complex bottom topography.
