Areas investigated are the Wadden Sea in the north, and the estuarine system of the rivers Rhine, Meuse and Scheldt in the south. 6 groups of spp could be discerned, 2 eulittoral (below MHW), and 1 terrestrial group. Except the terrestrial group, the occurrence of each group appears to be restricted to a certain part of the salinity range. The tidal distribution pattern is compared with that of non-tidal brackish inland areas.
