The main characteristics of water and sand movements are indicated: stable regime and large discharges ranging from 23000 m<sup>3</sup>.s<sup>-1</sup> to 80000 m<sup>3</sup>.s<sup>-1</sup>; low tides at the mouth with an average amplitude of 0.80 m, quickly damped upstream; sand of the bed with grain sizes dropping downstream from 1 mm to 0.2 mm, moving generally as dunes with a speed of 2 m to 10 m per day. The apparition during floods of different and smaller scale bedforms was observed. Measuring and calculation techniques are briefly described. Some results show the influence of geomorphological factors on sand transport phenomena, the erratic variations in time and space of sand transport rates and the influence of tidal movements on these. The role of secondary currents on the distribution of sand transport in and between channels is emphasized. Volumes of water and sand evacuated annually through the braided area are respectively estimated at 1.45 X 10<sup>12</sup> and 50 X 10<sup>6</sup> m<sup>3</sup>.","AbstractOtherLang":"Il s'agit de la description de la zone sédimentaire de la partie maritime du fleuve Zaïre située à l'amont du canon. Les caractéristiques principales des mouvements des eaux et des sables sont indiquées: stabilité du régime et débits élevés variant entre 23000 m³.s<sup>-1</sup> et 80000 m³.s<sup>-1</sup>; marées faibles a l'embouchure de 0,80 m d'amplitude moyenne, rapidement amorties vers l'amont; sur le fond sables d'une granulométrie décroissant de l'amont vers l'aval de 1 mm a 0,2 mm, en mouvement généralement sous la forme de dunes avan allant à la vitesse de 2 m à 10 m par jour. L'apparition de formes topographiques très particulières en temps de crue est signalée. Les techniques de mesure et de calcul des transports de sable sont sommairement décrites. Quelques résultats illustrent l'influence de facteurs géomorphologiques sur les phénomènes de transport de sable, les variations souvent erratiques de ces transports dans le temps et l'espace, de même que l'influence des mouvements de marée. Le rôle des courants secondaires sur la distribution des transports de sable entre et à l'intérieur des différents chenaux est souligné.
