When river water mixes with sea water, about 50 to 85% of the \"dissolved\" iron is removed from the solution through coagulation and  preceipitation onto silica grains whereby the use of filters with different pore-size showed that the rate of removal is directly related to pore size. This observation is of importance in relation to the actual flux of \"dissolved\" iron to the ocean. As the \"coarser\" fractions are moved readily removed than the smaller ones, the resulting flux of \"dissolved\" iron to the ocean is almost independent of the filter pore size. Further evidence of \"dissolved\" iron removal has been provided by suspended sediment analysis.
