The concentrations were 0.8 µg .l<sup>-1</sup> for surface ocean water, 20 to 45 ug.l<sup>-1</sup> for the Zaïre and 3 to 6 ug.l<sup>-1</sup> for the Niger river . Some evidence is given that part of the dissolved Al in Zaire river water is bound in organic complexes. Atomic absorption spectrometry gave concentrations comparable to the lumogallion method, only when the samples were filtered through 0.05 µm pores.
