X. dorsalis was observed on all wood species. However, on timber like vanah, bibolo, irul, merbau, aniegre, Indian teak, bijasal, wenge and abachi, most of the borers did not succeed beyond making very shallow pits. Density of timber alone was not a contributing factor to its natural resistance. Indian teak was more resistant than Malaysian teak, and American red-oak more resistant than Jugoslavian red-oak.
