The dab off the Scottish Coast and at the Fladen Ground averaged 18,70 and 19.32 cm, respectively. This was 1 to 2 cm longer than those in the other regions. The number of the age groups present increased from southeast to northwest. The dab populations in the North Sea, west Baltic Sea and around Iceland show clearly differences in the age and length structure. Significant fluctuations in the number of fin rays can occur from year to year. The number of dorsal and anal fin rays showed greater differences according to the region in which the fishes were caught.
