This paper argues that the regeneration of any river in isolation, particularly the Thames, delivers, at best, only a relatively short term boost to the local economy. It would therefore have been better to have spent the grant on an investigation into the long term feasibility of creating a commercial inland waterway system in the United Kingdom.
