Cependant, l'\u00e9tang a aussi un effet favorable en constituant une r\u00e9serve d'eau. Il se pr\u00e9sente souvent comme un r\u00e9gulateur de d\u00e9bit et de niveau de base et peut retenir des mati\u00e8res en suspension et des compos\u00e9s azot\u00e9s provenant des bassins versants. Dans le cas d'une pisciculture intensive moderne en \u00e9tangs cr\u00e9\u00e9s <i>de novo<\/i>, il existe une tendance a la r\u00e9utilisation de l'eau dans la pisciculture elle m\u00eame, sans rejet dans la riviere. Les effluents piscicoles sont ainsi recycl\u00e9s <i>in situ<\/i> dans l'\u00e9cosysteme aquatique et n'affectent pas l'environnement, ce qui constitue une originalit\u00e9 par rapport aux autres \u00e9levages hors sol. En cas d'intensification tr\u00e8s forte en petits bassins, le recyclage des matieres organiques non r\u00e9alisables dans ces derniers, peuvent en revanche s'effectuer \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 dans de grands \u00e9tangs traditionnels qui se trouvent ainsi fertilis\u00e9s. Les effluents d'\u00e9levage hors sol (lisiers, fientes de volailles) sont aussi classiquement recycl\u00e9s dans des \u00e9tangs, avec production extensive (grands \u00e9tangs) ou plus intensive en petits \u00e9tangs am\u00e9nag\u00e9s (acces aux berges, a\u00e9rateurs). Le recyclage de plus grandes quantit\u00e9s d'effluents d'\u00e9levage peut \u00eatre pratiqu\u00e9 en lagunage compartiment\u00e9 avec production s\u00e9par\u00e9e d' algues et de daphnies. Ces derni\u00e8res sont soit distribu\u00e9es vivantes directement aux poissons, soit s\u00e9ch\u00e9es et incorpor\u00e9es aux aliments pour animaux. The culture of fish in ponds may have negative impacts on the environment in particular on the river, upstream and downstream because of fish escapes, and downstream because of the release of slightly degraded water. However, ponds also have a favorable impact, i.e. storing water, regulating the flow rate and the basal level; they may retain suspended solids and nitrogen compounds coming from the watershed. In the case of new intensive production units, the tendency is to reuse the water in the fish farm, without release in the river. Fish manures are then recycled <i>in situ<\/i> in the aquatic ecosystem with less damage for the environment, compared to other out of soil production units. In case of strong intensification of production in small ponds with limited recycling capacity, water must be recycled in large traditional ponds which become fertilized. Various farm animal manures also are traditionally recycled in ponds with extensive or intensive production. A more sophisticated way for recycling manure is to separate production of algae and <i>Daphnia<\/i> in different pools. <i>Daphnia<\/i> can be distributed directly to fish or harvested, treated and incorporated to animal feeds.
