The scattering in the red part of the spectrum was measured at a fixed scattering angle of 15° to 16°, to maximum depths of about 1000 m. The scattering profiles were obtained in conjunction with CTD profiles. The scattering measurements show distinct features, such as layers of high scattering, frontal transitions and surface and bottom boundary on the eastern side of the Fram Strait, and markedly less evident on the western side. They also suggest the presence of several different water masses in the region. This is by and large in accordance with the water mass distribution as identified from the temperature and salinity observations.
