Such an approach has been applied to a long-time series of epibenthic sledge samples obtained from the Rockall Trough (N.E. Atlantic). Methods for the estimation of cohort age-structure from the analysis of modal structure of size-frequency distributions are described. It is shown how the realm of likely solutions may be constrained by prior information from skeletal growth lines.
