The species has the normal spider crab growth in that it does not moult after sexual maturity. Most individuals become mature in the third post-larval instar, but a few do so in the fourth or fifth instar. Mature instars are morphologically distinct in both sexes. Eggs are laid in summer and autumn, and hatch in the following spring and early summer. The majority pass through the larval and immature instars to moult to the mature instar a year after hatching.
