Grypus</i>) from Sable Island, NS. Mean {sigma}DDT and PCB levels in maternal blubber lipid was 14.0 and 14.5 {mu}g/g, respectively. Concns of DDT and PCBs in milk lipid were {approx} 60 and 30%, respectively, of those found in maternal blubber lipid, suggesting a partial barrier to passage of these residues through mammary tissue. Concns in pup blubber lipid were the same as, or slightly higher than, those in milk lipid. The authors estimated that a grey seal will lose {approx} 30% of its total {sigma}DDT burden and {approx} 15% of its PCB burden through lactation; this would be approx balanced by its estimated annual intake of these residues from food. Thus, the observation that female seals show no increase in residue burdens with age (in contrast to male) is explained.","AbstractOtherLang":null,"BibLvlCode":"AS","StandardTitle":"Organochlorine residues on maternel blubber, milk, and pup blubber from grey seals (<i>Halichoerus grypus</i>) from Sable Island, Nova Scotia","OrigTitleLangCode":"en","OrigTitleLangCodeExtended":"eng","OrigTitleLangID":15,"DateLastModified":{"date":"2024-12-10 01:33:17.368041","timezone_type":1,"timezone":"+01:00"},"UserAccessRight":null,"UserAccID":null,"AuthorKeywords":null,"OtherDescriptors":null,"Notes":null,"AnaPub":1977,"MonPub":null,"DateUpdate":"2012-08-20","DateCreate":"2001-09-19","SecASFANote":null,"ConfID":null,"PeerRev":1,"VlizCoreFlag":1,"WoScode":null,"VABBcode":null,"OpenAcc":0},"refs":null,"anarec":{"AnaID":17943,"PubliDate":1977,"Pagination":"937-941","XtraPublOfAnaID":null,"ISBN":null,"Volume":"34","Issue":null,"BRefMon":null,"BRefMonRR":null,"BRefXtra":null,"BRefXtraRR":null,"SerBRefID":44381,"SerRR":"Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada.
