It was found that the filtration rate for Unionidae ranged from 60-490 ml/ind./h and for <i>D. polymorpha</i> from l0-100m1/ind./h. Food consumption of Unionidae averaged 21 mg/ind./h and for <i>D. polymorpha</i> 2.6 mg/ind./h. The average faeces production for <i>D. polymorpha</i> was 1.6 mg/ind./h. It was calculated that the population of <i>D. polymorpha</i> can filter 53 millions m<sup>3</sup> water per season (6 months).
