The mean annual spiral growth has been established (12 size classes for the Mediterranean species and 8 size classes for M. lineata). The study of the shell growth shows: (1) a seasonal periodicity with a strong summer growth increase (with maximum in September, stronger in lower latitude) and slows down growth in winter (slower in higher latitude). (2) a correlation between growth and sexual cycle: all the species show an obvious increase of growth in spring followed some weeks later by a slowing down probably correlated with sexual development. The growth lasts 10 year in the Channel and 4 years on the Atlantic coast for M. lineata, 2 one half years for M. turbinata and 18 months for M. turbinata in the Mediterranean. There is a great difference in the growth rate of the 3 species.
