We maken hierbij gebruik van de lineaire Airy theorie. Uit deze theorie volgt dat de energie per oppervlakte-eenheid van een golf evenredig is met de golfhoogte in het kwadraat. In paragraaf 1.5. wordt nader ingegaan op de golfontleding. De oppervlakte onder de curve van een golfspectrum is immers een maat voor de hoeveelheid energie in de golven. In paragraaf 1.6. worden dan enkele golfspectra opgesteld via golfmetingen aan de Belgische kust. Er worden hierbij ook enkele besluiten getrokken.Nu we een eerste inzicht hebben in de energiehoeveelheid van de golven wordt er in hoofdstuk 2 nagegaan hoe we die golfenergie kunnen omzetten in elektrische energie. In paragraaf 2.1. worden de twee grote types energieconvertoren, nl. de actieve en de passieve, vermeld. Ook wordt schematisch aangegeven hoe de energieconversie gebeurt bij die twee types.<br>Paragraaf 2.2. en 2.3. geven dan een overzicht van verschillende actieve respectievelijk passieve energieconvertoren.<br>In paragraaf 2.4. worden enkele golffocustechnieken besproken. Deze technieken zorgen ervoor dat de energiehoeveelheid van de golven, die de convertor naderen, stijgt. In paragraaf 2.6. wordt dan nagegaan of deze energieconvertoren aan de Belgische kust kunnen toegepast worden.
