The basic concept is visualization of the danger of collision (steel-tosteel contact) from the viewpoint of manoeuvring ship based on hydrodynamic interaction in its final approach phase towards the constant heading ship. The danger of collision is evaluated based on hydrodynamic interaction acting on the ship hull and simulation of ship manoeuvring. The hydrodynamic interaction is estimated from the results of model test experiments with two tankers in various positions in the final approach phase of an STS lightering operation.
