Captive model tests are carried out to measure the hydrodynamic forces acting on two hulls and two rudders with changing lateral clearance between ships, hull drift angle and rudder angle. The experimental results are compared with numerical analysis using the nonlinear lifting surface theory. We found that when a ship moves obliquely to be close to other ship, suction force and bow-in moment act on both ships and become larger with decrease of the lateral clearance between ships.
