One of them is located in well sorted sands and the others in quiet muddy sands, where the Grau flows into the lagoon. The Grau, a canal linking the lagoon to the sea, results in a continuous vivification of the region and a relative stability of hydrological conditions compared with the rest of the lagoon. The density and biomass reach very high levels : I 0 015 organisms per sq. meter and 293,6 g per sq. meter (dry weight) in well sorted sands, 4 010 organisms per sq. meter and 44,5 g per sq. meter in muddy sands. Quite notable qualitative and quantitative fluctuations througout the cycle are closely connected with local hydrological conditions, which are dependant upon seasonal changes. Molluscs (<i>Scrobicularia plana</i>, <i>Venerupis aurea</i> and <i>V. decussata</i>) represent most of the biomass, respectively 96,5 % (well sorted sand) and 76 % (muddy sands).","AbstractOtherLang":null,"BibLvlCode":"AS","StandardTitle":"Les peuplements benthiques d’un étang littoral Languedocien, l’étang du Prévost (Hérault): 2.
