De eerste Europese waarneming van deze soort stamt uit 1994 in de Portugese Algarve streek. De slijkgrascicade bereikte België vermoedelijk in 2010, hoewel het tot 20 augustus 2011 duurde vooraleer hij er voor het eerst werd waargenomen. Mogelijk werd deze cicade via transport met slijkgrasbladeren in Europa geïntroduceerd. De slijkgrascicade komt exclusief voor op slijkgrassen en voedt zich met het voedingsrijke sap van deze planten. De slijkgrascicade werd langs de Amerikaanse westkust (Washington State) uitgezet om het daar ingevoerde slijkgras biologisch te bestrijden.","BibLvlCode":"MS","StandardTitle":"Slijkgrascicade – <i>Prokelisia marginata</i>.
