A second species is recognised as belonging to the same genus, <em class=\"a-plus-plus\">S. ramulosa</em> (Calvet 1906), first described from doubtfully living material from the Capo Verde Islands and now found to be relatively common in Gelasian sediments from Southern Italy. The two species show close similarities in zooid morphology, zooid arrangement along the branches and growth form, but differ mostly in the morphology of the avicularia, the morphology and location of the ovicells and the zooidal dimensions.
