L'examen des spécimens de Penaeus marginatus provenant des Hawaï et de l'océan Indien occidental confirme la suggestion de Burkenroad (1959) selon laquelle Penaeus teraoi Kubo serait un synonyme de P. marginatus. Des caractères de différenciation subspécifique n'ont pas été découverts entre les exemplaires des Hawaï et ceux de l'océan Indien et du Pacifique occidental. Les relations taxonomiques entre Metapenaeopsis philippii Bate, M. coniger Wood-Mason, M. andamanensis Wood-Mason, et M. provocatoria Racek ont été étudiées dans le cadre de l'identification de trois spécimens chalutés au large de Durban.
