During this campaign the variation of the water surface in the lock was measured. Consequently the end-to-end water surface slopes were calculated. Based on these data and based on the experience of the lock authorities that in the actual situation vessels similar to the design vessel of the new lock transit the Vandamme lock without encountering any problems, a pragmatic criterion for the maximum allowable force on the design vessel for the new lock is derived.
