Below disturbed and decalcified Quaternary sediments, a ca. 30-cm-thick shell bed occurs, which comprises Pliocene molluscs and foraminifera including Cribrononion excavatum and Neogloboquadrina pachyderma, mainly forma sinistralis, and which is probably a lateral equivalent of the Oorderen Sand Member (Lillo Formation), but was possibly partly reworked during the Quaternary. This shell layer overlies Late Miocene Deurne Sands exhibiting Uvigerina deurnensis, Elphidium antoninum and N pachyderma (forma dextralis). Their position above and below the megafossil-rich intercalation proves a Late Miocene (Tortonian or Gramian) age. At the base of the outcrop, Middle Miocene deposits (Antwerp Sands) with Asterigerina guerichi staeschei and Elphidium inflatum were er.countered.
