The new species is compared with other members of the subgenus <i>Leymeriaster</i>, and especially with <i>H. (L.) maestrichtensis</i>, which occurs in the same area. <i>H. (L) eluvialis</i> is interpreted as a descendant of the <i>H. (L) moulinsanus</i> - <i>H. (L.) maestrichtensis</i> group, showing a combination of paedomorphic and peramorphie traits. <i>H. (L.) eluvialis</i> made its first appearance in the Maastrichtian type area during deposition of the Lanaye Member (top Gulpen Formation), while <i>H.
