The strategy is based on the results of the Commission's demonstration programme on the integrated management of coastal zones in Europe, the primary objective of which was to identify the measures needed for appropriate planning and management of coastal zones in the Union and to draw conclusions on the future action needed at European level to strike a balance between environmental, economic and social considerations in coastal zones. This communication highlights the complementary roles played by different sectors and levels of the administration and recognises the diversity of conditions in the different coastal zones in the Union. The strategy announced consists of 38 measures to be taken at Union level to make the most efficient use of Community policies, adding only a limited number of new measures.","AbstractOtherLang":"In haar mededeling, die een aanvulling is op het voorstel voor een aanbeveling van het Europees Parlement en de Raad betreffende de uitvoering van een geïntegreerd beheer van de kustgebieden in Europa, kondigt de Commissie een Europese strategie voor het geïntegreerd beheer van de kustgebieden aan. Deze strategie is het resultaat van de conclusies van het demonstratieprogramma van de Commissie over het geïntegreerd beheer van de kustgebieden in Europa, met als hoofddoel de noodzakelijke maatregelen voor een goede planning en een goed beheer van de kustgebieden van de Unie vast te stellen en conclusies te trekken met betrekking tot de op Europees niveau noodzakelijke toekomstige acties, teneinde op evenwichtige wijze rekening te houden met milieu-, economische en sociale factoren in de kustgebieden. De onderhavige mededeling gaat nader in op de aanvullende rol van de verschillende sectoren en bestuursniveaus en erkent de uiteenlopende situaties in de verschillende kustgebieden van de Unie. De in de mededeling aangekondigde strategie bestaat uit achtendertig acties, die op communautair niveau moeten worden gevoerd.
