Uit de experimenten waarbij de percoll-gradiënten voor de scheiding van de leucocyten werd nagegaan gaf de combinatie: d = 1,02; d = 1,05 en d = 1,06 de beste resultaten. Er werden eveneens proeven op aquariumvis en op levende vis verricht, die onmiddellijk na de landing in het laboratorium werden uitgevoerd. Een protocol werd opgesteld waarbij de behandeling van het monster aan boord van het vaartuig en in het laboratorium wordt beschreven.
