The contourites can be classified into: calcarenitic contourite, calcisiltitic contourite, calcilutitic contourite and bioclastic contourite. Calcarenitic contourite is mainly composed of sparite calcarenite and is characterized by coarser grain, very irregular boundary plane, development of parallel stratification and ripple bedding.
