Het is niet alleen een poging om aan de hand van een unieke kaartenset een geografische reconstructie te presenteren. Het schept ook een beeld van het deskundige werk dat de Belgische militaire ingenieurs en hun pontonniers verwezenlijkten in de maanden augustus en september van 1914.
