We explicitly compute a stream velocity using basically a prediction of channel flow resistance. We claim that this synthetic stream velocity is relatively easy to obtain at costs more affordable in comparison to continuous velocity measurements which would be obtained by H-ADCP or non-contact (radar) technology. The method also should normally allow obtaining a valid depth-to-discharge relationship in a much shorter period than what the conventional field gauging interventions are able to achieve.
