(Crustacea: Decapoda) was divided into sequential moult stages on the basis of setal development (setogenesis) and associated changes to the epidermis and underlying tissue on the inner edge of the outer uropods. The events observed follow the pattern for less-heavily calcified (natant) crustaceans described in the classical scheme of Drach &amp; Tchernigovtzeff (1967), though several structural and temporal differences are apparent. A number of setogenetic features not included in that scheme were found to be useful criteria for moult staging <i>C. crangon.</i> The scheme is derived from light microscopy observations of the intact uropods of live male and female (ovigerous and non-ovigerous) <i>C. crangon</i> of 0.4 — 4.0 g wet weight from a British population. The 10 principal moult stages identified, namely Aj, A2, B, C, Do, D<sub>1</sub>; D<sub>2</sub>, D<sub>3</sub>, D<sub>4</sub>, and E, are depicted in representative photographs with accompanying text.
