Dit ontwerp dient de veiligheid van de molen en de gebieden langsheen de Vliet te garanderen en dient bovendien de historische werking van de molen te waarborgen en te optimaliseren.<p>Uit een reeks van vijf door de opdrachtgever weerhouden scenario’s, werden na een eerste evaluatie 2 scenario’s geselecteerd om verder uit te werken en te toetsen aan reële gegevens met springtij periodes.<p>Het scenario dat als meest optimale uit de berekeningen komt omvat een inlaat, met beperkte opening, in bypass rond de kofferdam, in combinatie met een buffergebied op de linker oever van de Vliet om het water tijdelijk op te slaan.<p>In afwachting van een definitieve oplossing, tonen de berekeningen ook aan dat, in theorie, het gebruik van de huidige in- en uitwateringsconstructie met een zeer beperkte opening, een tijdelijke oplossing kan bieden.
