Title
Typifying an era in biology through synthesis of biodiversity information: achievements and impediments
Abstract
While phylogenetic systematics has developed rapidly and impressively over the last five decades, a reawakened interest in the role and impact of biodiversity collections epitomizes the last two decades in particular. In this essay, we explore various aspects that characterize this Biodiversity Information Synthesis: achievements, impediments, shifting personnel roles, technological advancements, and predictions on future trends both bleak and promising.
