The first assemblage is subdivided in two facies: from 160 to 200 m depth, with Nucula sulcata; from 450 to 1,500 m with Dentalium agile and Nucula tenuis aegensis. Cithna tenella's assemblage was subdivided in a superficial facies from 2,000 to 2,400 m, still belonging to the bathyal plain and characterized by Yoldiella tenuis and in a deeper, probably abyssal facies with Cyclostrema solutum. The following new species have been described from the last assemblage: Cyclostrema solutum, Cocculina mamilla, Diaphana jonica, Cuspidaria elliptica and Halicardia ferruginea. Leptaxinus subovatus and Policordia gemma have been recorded for the first time in the Mediterranean. The Author suggest the presence of a Mediterranean abyssal fauna differing from the others known up to now.
