Most of the species belong to the Bacillariophyta, but he also publishedtaxa in the Cyanobacteria, Chlorophyta, Chrysophyta and Euglenophyta. For each taxon, details on the location of the type specimens are included along with their sample localities, dates and references to the protologues. A selection of pictures and drawings are added to illustrate PierreCompère's work.
