Drop traps enclosing a bottom area of 1 m² and the water column above have been used down to a depth of 0.5 m. Out of 83 drops only six were completely without any trapped fish. 16 species were caught but only a few of these occurred frequently. On average, the total abundance was 15.7 fish.m<sup>-2</sup> with a mean biomass of 4.3 g.m<sup>-2</sup> (2.98.m<sup>-2</sup> if a school of rudd is excluded). The sand goby (<i>Pomatoschistus minutus</i> Pallas) dominated and was caught in 61 % of the drops. Its mean abundance was 4.9 fish.m<sup>-2</sup> and the corresponding biomass 0.9 g.m<sup>-2</sup>. A school of rudd (<i>Scardinius erythrophthalmus</i> L.) caught in one drop affected the mean biomass value considerably and the mean for rudd was 39 % of the total although this species was present in two drops only.
