There are, at least, three species of mobulids occurring in the region, possibly four: giant manta <i>Manta birostris</i>; Chilean devil ray <i>Mobula tarapacana</i>; and one or both of the giant devil ray <i>Mobula mobular</i>/spinetail devil ray <i>Mobula japanica</i> species complex.
