Net production was calculated from values of biomass, decomposition rates and mortality obtained in a Mediterranean coastal lagoon (Tancada lagoon, Ebro Delta, NE Spain). Overall, the biomass of rhizomes and roots was constant during the annual cycle, but stem biomass varied substantially. Above-ground biomass peaked in September with 532 g AFDW m<sup>-2</sup> and reached a minimum in April with 30 g AFDW m<sup>-2</sup>. The net production was calculated to be 361.1 g C m<sup>-2</sup> per year, which is the highest value for <i>R. cirrhosa</i> reported in the literature, and a turnover rate of 1.34.
