The first available name for a different species often identified as <i>Pleuroploca</i> or <i>Fasciolaria salmo</i> is <i>Fasciolaria valenciennesii</i> Kiener, 1840, which Deshayes (1843) incorrectly treated as a synonym of <i>P. salmo</i>. In the last several decades, authors who presumably intended to use the name <i>Pleuroploca salmo</i> sensu Deshayes have inadvertently illustrated true <i>P. salmo</i>. Since usage of the names is not consistent, we follow strict priority and synonymize <i>Fasciolaria granosa</i> with <i>Murex salmo</i>.
