There is an important overlap of species, mostly of the typical fauna from the international biogeographic region between Punta Eugenia in México and Point Conception in California known as the Southern California Bight containing 36 species, with occasional records in the westernmost point of Baja California, México. The Gulf of California contains 21 species, the Southern Gulf of California and the Mexican Tropical Pacific both with 15 inhabiting species, and the rest of the species extending their distribution into several ecoregions. Intertidal species are better known than those from subtidal or deeper waters.
